Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program
Partnerships between state and federal agencies combined with the dedicated work of Child Nutrition staff and school administrators contributes to the success and acceptance of the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program. The FFVP is a federally assisted program that provides tastes of fresh fruits and vegetables to students in participating elementary schools during the school day.
Pioneer Elementary School has been selected to participate in the FFV Program during the 2016-17 school year. The program offers students the opportunity to taste several fruits and vegetables throughout the school year in an effort to increase their interest in eating more fresh fruits and vegetables.
A goal of the program is to improve students’ overall diet and encourage healthier eating habits for a positive impact on health. By expanding the variety of fruits and vegetables children experience, their consumption of fruits and vegetables is increased and their palates are awakened to new tastes and textures.
