Auburn School District Classified Employee of the Year
The Auburn School District Board of Directors will recognize Pilar Hunter as the Classified Employee of the Year at 7 p.m., February 27 in the James P. Fugate Administration building.
Hunter is the family engagement liaison at Olympic Middle School. This awards program recognizes the work of classified staff who have made a positive difference in their profession. She also will be considered for the Puget Sound ESD Regional Classified Employee of the Year.
Hunter has worked in the Auburn School District for nine years. She has been a playground supervisor, worked the summer feeding program, been a one-on-one para-educator, a resource room para-educator and worked in the SLC program. In addition to her current work with families, she is active in the futsal program and is the staff leader for the Latinos Unidos service club.
“I really, really love this school. I love the staff, I love the kids,” she said. “This is the job I was born to do.”
Olympic Principal Jason Hill said Olympic would not be the same without Hunter. “Our students are more in engaged in our school. She has created a culture of belonging and service. Her leadership efforts improve attendance, grades and so many other immeasurable aspects of our students’ success.”
Hunter views her role as the family engagement liaison a perfect fit for her career aspirations. Her goal is to facilitate for families anything kids need to be successful in school. She is bilingual in Spanish and works closely with Olympic’s Hispanic families.
